As part of my best friends birthday celebration, he wanted to try two different wines with the same dish. We started with the East Coast – Channing Daughter’s 2019 Petillant Naturel Rosato Merlot. You can read about the 2021 here. Located in Bridgehampton, NY – you can’t get more east coast than Long Island.
The 2019 is not a shocking pink as the 2021, in fact I’d describe it a more of a light rose color – perfect for a summer wedding or baby shower in color. It helps that the wine had a bit of a rose scent to it. I got flavors of peaches/apricots while John got more of a sharp tang and herbs.
This was paired with blackened scallops and alfredo pasta (his choice). I was a bit harsh with just the pasta, but the scallops brought out a strawberry flavor in the wine.
Final Thoughts
This wine goes with food and conversation. It’s the perfect wine for sitting around with friends, while eating hors d’oeuvres and discussing something like what you read lately. Wait – that would make it a Book Club Wine!!!
But seriously – its a good wine for the porch, for keeping in the ice box for when friends drop in, and for a Tuesday night because it’s going to be a long week…
