Stag’s Leap AVETA 2021

As part of my Best Friend’s birthday dinner we paired an East Coast wine (here) and a West Coast wine with the food. For the West Coast we did Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars AVETA Sauvignon Blanc 2021.

Technically this is a blend of 76% Sauvignon Blanc, 19% Sauvignon Musque, 4% Muscat Canelli, and 1% Semillon – BUT that’s only if you’re being picky.

This was paired with the blackened scallops and alfredo pasta, just like the East Coast wine. We got notes of grass, pear, green, sugar and citrus. (Yes, I said green – as that’s what my notes say…)

It brought out the spice in the scallops for my best friend and was just tart with the scallops for me. The wine brought out the butter in the noodles and in the wine.

Final Thoughts

We decided this wine needed food. It wasn’t one we could just sit around and drink. It would go well with fruit. Or as my friend said – beer battered fish and tartar sauce. So, while its Lent and that makes sense for a Friday priced wine – it probably deserves better than fish and chips. Maybe poisson a poivre avec frites.
