Sandy Road – 2022 Sangiovese Rosé

This Sandy Road (website) 2022 Sangiovese Rosé had almost no pink color to it. But you could taste the deep fruit flavor.

Not that I’ve had that many white burgundies, but you could liken this one to the few I’ve had. Not too aromatic (or I had it too cold) but very berry, citrus and a plum finish. It has a hidden spice to it.

It went really well with the cod, and brought out the flavor in the breading. The fried (baked) green beans brought out the spice and the wine bought out the pepper in the green bean breading. Not bad with the vegetables.

Final Thoughts

Believe it or not, I really loved this with the cinnamon sugar pretzels I had for dessert. The pretzels brought out more of the Sangiovese flavor and some citrus. Honestly, I did this wine a disservice with my pairing. It is the 2023 Drink Pink Vino International Rosé Wine Competition Gold Medal winner. Along with several other awards (see here). While I originally gave this a Thursday rating (see here), it really was good with fish on a Wednesday night, so I revise it to a Wednesday.

Not familiar with my philosophy on wines or ranking system. Check them out here.
