Val Verde 2022 Rosé

This rosé got the puppy nose of approval. Normally we turn our nose up at any wine we’re offered to sniff – but this one we actually sniffed at…

Unfortunately, to me it smells like a cheap rosé… There’s peach, yeast and something floral. My partner in wine said passionfruit.

Wow! It was sweet! So sweet in fact, I’m not sure why I bought it when I was at the winery since I’m not that fond of super sweet wines.

Regardless, it had been in the ice box for a while, so it needed to be drunk. As it warmed up it got the flavors of spiced pear.

What better to pair it with than a taco salad kit with birria dressing and bacon and cheese wrapped chicken bites?

(Yes, the food and label are blurry, but not Rusty, my fur-baby.)

The wine was good with bacon and jalapeño wrapped chicken and brought down the limited spice level that was there. It wasn’t bad with the birria dressing, which makes me wonder how it would do with birria tacos.

Final Thoughts

My partner in wine described it best as

With food it’s classy. On its own, it’s sassy.

-Partner in Wine

Which perfectly sums up the wine. Had I opened this for friends and not shown them the bottle, they’d probably think it was Gallo. So, my advice to you is to save this bottle for when you’ve had a horrific day – like I had – and enjoy it on your own. Savor the sweetness and the depth that you can only get from a Texas rosé.
