I popped by the Systembolaget, the state owned liquor store in Sweden, for a little single serve of white wine to go with some cheese and bread.
I got a can of Leva Chardonnay & Dimiat & Muscat. A white blend from Bulgaria. At 12% ABV, it’s pretty light. There is some buttery flavor from the Chardonnay, but a crispness one might expect from a Pinot Grigio. The muscat adds the right amount of sweetness.
The can says “Fresh and fruity with notes of elderflower, pears, melon and citrus.”
Final Thoughts
I get the elderflower and pear flavors. It paired pretty good with manchengo cheese. It’s a great Tuesday night, sitting on the porch with friends wine. Given I don’t have much experience with Bulgarian wines, it does make me want to try more. The packaging did its job, it got me to buy the can.
