Comments on Coppola

I had a colleague ask me for a suggestion for wine for a family dinner. I made several, but he choose Coppola based on my comments, which were as follows….

Yes, as in Francis Ford Coppola

You, the director of the Godfather, Apocalypse Now, among others. His directing career aside, the wine is pretty drinkable. Personally, I think the red blend is a good safe table wine. It’s a Monday for me. I don’t feel bad if I don’t finish the bottle.

However, despite the waning popularity of Merlot, the Merlot is really drinkable. The Diamond is available everywhere, so since you want to impress family, splurge and get the Director’s Cut (usually over $20/bottle). The Diamond is a Thursday – you’re treating yourself, but it’s not Friday. The Director’s Cut is definitely a Friday wine. Could be a Saturday night with friends – or in this case – family dinner.

Final Thoughts

My colleague came back and said that everyone liked the Coppola. Truthfully, you can’t go wrong with Coppola. It’s a good gift wine, especially the Director’s Cut. It has a cool wine label that mimics film. Read more on the Director’s Cut directly from The Family Coppola here.

I haven’t tried everything from the winery, but I’ve probably had most of the Diamond varietals (cabernet, pinot grigio, chardonnay, etc). They are a good grocery story varietal. Easy to find and easy to drink.
